Frontend Engineer

Berlin · Frontend

We believe in the everyday hero.

Small business owners are at the heart of all we do, so we're creating tools that help them run their business. With a founders mentality and a 'team-first attitude' our diverse teams across Europe, South America, and the United States work together to ensure that the small business owners we partner with can be successful in doing what they love.

The Merchant Growth Tribe’s mission is to build an ecosystem of simple but powerful products and services to help SumUp’s 1.5m+ global merchants grow their businesses. In addition to our core product, the Point-of-Sale (POS) application, the Tribe also develops invoicing and ecommerce services.

Beyond this, we aim to expand SumUp’s product range to cover areas like accounting, marketing, customer loyalty and business analytics. Ultimately, our work strengthens SumUp’s ability to serve the needs of merchants around the world.

As a Frontend Engineer, you'll work with a small cross-functional team to build tools that help small businesses thrive. By shipping code early and often, you'll see the impact of your work on merchants’ lives right away. You'll collaborate with experts in product, design and operations to deliver mission-critical features that power the SumUp ecosystem.

A few of the technologies we're leveraging on the web at SumUp include React, Webpack, Jest, Enzyme, Storybook, Next.js, Emotion, Node.js and Docker.

You will:

  • Work with a cross-functional team to ship code multiple times per week.

  • Refine the full stack of the website, from CI/CD tooling, to test automation, building features, running experiments, and monitoring and production support.

  • Collaborate with product and design departments to build maintainable, usable and beautiful features.

  • Share your knowledge with other developers through pair programming and receive mentorship in return.

  • Help us continue to develop our open-source projects and culture.

Here are some of the things you could be working on at SumUp:

  • Our design system and component library, built in React, using Emotion for CSS-in-JS. These components can be used in all our different web applications. We use Storybook as a component workbench and Docz to generate public-facing documentation.

  • And many more, like our merchant-facing React app, SumUp for Developers tools, ecom gateway, open source integrations, internal applications, and greenfield projects. We also do CI with Docker and Jenkins, and run our applications on Kubernetes as well.
