Engineering Manager - Data Infrastructure

As Engineering Manager - Data Infrastructure, you’ll play an essential role in SumUp's data organisation. We have multiple product development teams in Berlin focusing on delivering a global data infrastructure that supports SumUp’s data-driven mindset and helps millions of businesses to thrive. 

We work with big data, the most sophisticated data engineering tools and cloud services to build excellent data infrastructure for SumUp. In collaboration with operations, engineers, product managers, analysts and data scientists we get insights from complex data, develop data flows and build data products. A few of the technologies we are leveraging: Python, Scala, R, AWS, GC, Redshift, Postgres, Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Ansible, Docker.

What you’ll do

  • Support the team in learning and development by using career development tools, identifying learning needs and encouraging the team for development

  • Hold your team members accountable and create a strong two-way feedback loop

  • Develop a strong understanding of the technical challenges your team members face through pair programming and code reviews

  • Engage and improve our engineering culture by driving team-strengthening activities, such as offsites, hackathons, cross-team projects and knowledge-sharing sessions

  • Participate in hiring and onboarding of engineers by taking care of headcount planning, defining needed skills, interviewing, preparing onboarding plan for new hires, follow-up on learning and integration

You’ll be great for this role if

  • You understand the importance of cross-functional team spirit vs. traditional expert-based organisations.

  • You have a proven track record in building high-performing teams, with at least two years of management expereince. 

  • You have a solid computer science background, and experience with data engineering and software engineering management.

  • You’re self-motivated and proactive, with great English communication skills.
