As the Director of Engineering, you’ll be instrumental in delivering beautifully crafted technical solutions that enable merchants to effortlessly use our various products. You’ll understand the needs of merchants and collaborate with our Product, Design, Salesforce and Data teams as the technical leader and architect of the tribe. The team is spread between our Berlin and São Paulo offices.
What you’ll do
Set standards for excellence in technical delivery, including data pipelines, applications, with development best practices to ensure the team produces high quality, well-architected and supportable code
Ensure a healthy balance between features and technical debt
Collaborate with stakeholders to plan, execute, and deliver product features, keeping in mind long-term maintainability
Lead, coach, unblock and technically mentor team members, while taking ownership of hiring and attracting talent to grow the engineering team
Be an advocate for your team throughout SumUp, looking for opportunities to leverage expertise and contribute to the tech community for alignment and efficiency
You’ll be great for this role if
You have 5+ years' experience as a direct manager of teams in a technical role, with 3+ years spent managing team leads or other managers.
You have experience with strategic planning ideally across DevOps, Operations, and Product.
You demonstrate critical thinking and creative problem solving skills.
You’re a leader with strong software development experience, capable of working hands-on directly alongside your team.
You have strong written and verbal English communication skills, and are confident engaging with an experienced audience including C-level executives.
You’re able to work in a fast-paced environment with teams distributed across various locations.
