Who we are
The Merchant Growth Tribe’s mission is to build an ecosystem of simple yet powerful products for our 1.5m+ merchants around the world which will help them grow their business. This includes our Point-of-Sale team, which is building our core product that allows our merchants to process contactless payments seamlessly. We also have a team building an Invoicing & Accounting platform to help streamline small business invoicing needs and an eCommerce team, building brand new websites, tools to track multichannel markets and offer customers live chat support.
We're looking for a Senior/Lead Backend Engineer to help drive our engineering roadmap for the Sales History team, working to develop a highly scalable API to create a unified sales history at SumUp.
What you’ll do
Participate in REST API design and implementation for both internal APIs and those exposed to our third-party integrators.
Take ownership of individual and team efforts. You strive to keep deadlines and communicate clearly about any potential roadblocks. Ownership also means to empower other team members and delegate work loads as is necessary.
Actively provide code review feedback to other software engineers, considering both style and implementation.
Provide thoughtful and comprehensive documentation and testing for your features before shipping them.
You’ll be great for this role if
You have 10+ years’ relevant experience in building scalable robust transactional systems and first-hand experience in leading a team of skilled engineers.
You have vast experience with transaction processing systems that have high availability/throughput.
You’re an expert at JVM-based languages. You have vast experience with a microservices architecture, event-driven design, and RESTful APIs.
You have experience working with AWS or similar as well as orchestration software such as Kubernetes.
You have a deep understanding of CS fundamentals (preferably with a CS degree) and are able to spot “the pattern” behind new technologies and understand it’s real value.
