About the role

As a Payment Engineer you will support the team with delivering payment features for our card readers and you will also help pass and maintain the payment certifications for our readers.

You will be expected to act as a payment Subject Matter Expert by providing expertise within the Hardware team, and other teams within the company.

As a Payment Engineer, you will be part of one of our small and highly skilled cross-functional teams and work together with Product Manager, Embedded Engineers, Backend Engineers, Certification Manager and UX/UI Engineer.

To be successful in this role you should be open to constantly learning about payments systems, be proactive when it comes to solving issues, and enjoy working autonomously.

As a prior experience in payment is a must-have for this role, we encourage applications from any background ( example: embedded QA testing, backend development, etc.. )

What you’ll do:

  • Design specification and implementation of embedded software in the field of payment processing terminals

  • Execute code and architecture reviews to ensure the quality of implemented solutions. You’ll bring your experience to develop payment and security software

  • Perform acceptance, functional, regression and exploratory testing on the SumUp platform

  • Drive payment terminals certifications

You’ll be great for this role, if: 

  • You have prior experience working on EMV solutions, contact and contactless payments or you have experience in smart card technologies (e.g. NFC, ISO7816)

  • You have knowledge of payment certifications ( EMVCo, Schemes,E2E Acquirers )

  • You have knowledge of payment security certifications ( PCI )

  • You have experience developing in C programming language

Nice to have:

  • Have experience with embedded systems, developing low-level applications 

  • Experience working with embedded Linux/Unix platforms
