We are looking for a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join the AML AI Engineering team within the Risk & Compliance Tribe. In this role, you'll collaborate with a cross-functional team of software engineers, data scientists, ML engineers, analysts, and product managers to combat financial crime and protect SumUp from money laundering activities. Your primary focus will be on the development and maintenance of our online transaction screening platform, while also driving automation initiatives to streamline and improve AML operations.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and maintain software solutions for high-volume AML checks in SumUp Bank transactions and other AML operations.

  • Collaborate with Data Scientists and engineers to design, test, and deploy systems that enhance AML processes.

  • Write clean, efficient code, following best practices and participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and performance.

  • Automate and optimize AML workflows using AI and machine learning.

  • Identify and implement system improvements to enhance performance and scalability.

  • Mentor junior developers, supporting their technical growth.

  • Contribute innovative solutions to the FinCrime space and stay updated on emerging technologies.

You’ll be great for this position if you have:

  • 5+ years of proven experience in software development, with strong expertise in backend programming, particularly in Golang.

  • Extensive experience with high-availability, high-throughput transaction processing systems.

  • Proficient in cloud-based architectures (AWS), microservices, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Deep architectural knowledge of scalable systems, including microservices, Kafka messaging, API design, database solutions, networking, and system monitoring.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, fostering trust, respect, and a positive feedback culture within teams.

  • A business-driven mindset with a mature approach to problem-solving and project delivery.
