TeamThe Merchant Growth Tribe’s mission is to build an ecosystem of simple yet powerful products for our 1.5m+ merchants around the world which will help them grow their business. In addition to our core product, the Point-of-Sale (POS) application, the teams within the Tribe also provide merchants with invoicing and eCommerce solutions.
Beyond this, we will expand SumUp’s ecosystem with additional products and services such as accounting, marketing, loyalty and business analytics, all available in one place. The products we develop strengthen SumUp’s value proposition and ability to serve small merchants around the world.As our VP of Engineering, you’ll mentor and support the Tribe's engineering and technical product leads in building a common platform, tools and elements where needed to support a multi-product ecosystem. This is a unique opportunity to shape and build SumUp’s products touching millions of small merchants worldwide.What you’ll do in this role
Formulate a strategy, together with the Product Tribe Lead, to realise the Tribe’s vision.
Ensure engineering best practices and standards around topics such as architecture and processes enabling multiple products to co-exist and interact.
Own cadences, topics spanning across various teams and establish effective working rhythms between the teams to ensure engineering objectives are met
Work with engineering leads to ensure a sound decision process and alignment with the engineering strategy of the tribe resulting in interoperability, open standards and scalable infrastructure.
Identify product/functionality needs together with product leads and collaborate with internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery.
Ensure that engineering teams implement optimal integration strategies, techniques and user experience best practices with access to product data.
Serve as a liaison with other Tribes and central SumUp teams to ensure Merchant Growth is represented and it’s needs from other teams are addressed.
What you’ll do as a leader at SumUp
Represent the Tribe in front of SumUp’s senior leaders.
Hire and coach engineering managers and architects to become leaders in their respective fields.
Help engineering leads develop skills, overcome blockers and identify their strengths and weaknesses, in a way that keeps them motivated.
Maintain the engineering teams’ focus and alignment with SumUp’s general strategy.
Present and communicate the tribe’s strategy and solutions clearly to a wide, diverse audience.
You’ll be great for this role if
You have 10+ years of software engineering experience combined with leadership roles in interconnected multi-product companies and distributed or service based systems.
You have strong technical knowledge coupled with effective communication skills enabling you to guide cross-functional product and engineering teams
You’ve mastered different leadership styles, and use situational awareness to keep your team moving forward in even the most complex situations.
You understand the required capabilities for effective software delivery, like continuous delivery, you can advocate for them and promote their implementation, both in the tribe and the organisation.
You strive to build a generative engineering culture of high cooperation and innovation.
You’re an innovative thinker, able to quickly recognise opportunities and apply your expertise to deliver solutions that support outstanding customer experiences.
