Our Engineering teams are building a common platform to support SumUp’s multi-product ecosystem. As a VP of Engineering, you’ll lead our Hardware tribe as we work towards this exciting goal. This tribe is responsible for building our core products - the beautifully designed, intuitive card readers that put SumUp on the map. In this role, you’ll mentor and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team composed of 10 different squads split across Berlin and São Paulo. You’ll ensure that our approach to engineering delivery is innovative, agile and scalable, and you’ll play a key role in the continued development of SumUp’s technical roadmap.
What you’ll do
Ensure engineering best practices around topics such as architecture and processes that enable multiple platforms
Establish effective working rhythms between the teams to ensure that engineering objectives are met
Work with engineering leads to ensure sound decision processes and alignment with the engineering strategy of the tribe, resulting in interoperability, open standards and scalable infrastructure
Identify any product/functionality needs and collaborate with internal stakeholders to define the necessary development to support solution delivery
Ensure that engineering teams implement optimal integration strategies, techniques and user experience best practices with access to product data
Serve as a liaison between other tribes and teams to ensure that Hardware is represented and its need are addressed
Hire and coach engineering managers and architects to become experts in their respective fields
Help engineering leads develop skills, overcome blockers and identify their strengths and weaknesses, in a way that keeps them motivated
Maintain the engineering teams’ focus and alignment with SumUp’s general strategy
Present and communicate the tribe’s strategy and solutions clearly to a wide, diverse audience, including SumUp’s senior leaders
You’ll be great for this role if
You have experience as a VP Engineering or CTO in a multi-product organisation. Experience of building a scalable engineering organisation would be a big plus.
You have a broad engineering background (software, hardware, mobile, QA etc).
You’ve been involved in the creation of highly desirable products, in either a hardware or software capacity.
You’re up-to-date on all the latest best practices in engineering.
You’re adept at building teams, with exceptional leadership and coaching skills.
You have a collaborative mindset, take a hands-on approach, and are skilled at change management.
You have outstanding communication skills, with fluent verbal and written English.
You’re skilled at engaging and managing relationships with multiple stakeholders.
