Head of People

As Head of people for these two tribes you’ll be working with cross-functional teams which include engineers, designers, product managers, data Analysts, agile coaches etc. The two tribes in total currently have +100 people with parts of the tribes based in Brazil.

You’ll ensure that the tribe’s organisational structure is developed in a scalable way, that the leadership team is challenged and coached in a way that encourages their development and that of the members of the tribe.

As a senior member of the Tribe steering group, you’ll help shape a healthy culture that fosters innovation and is a driving force in creating great teams – teams that ultimately create amazing products, allowing SumUp to fulfil the vision of creating a world where small businesses can be successful doing what they love.

What you’ll do

  • Shape the culture of SumUp across the Merchant Acquisition & Merchant Success tribe – leading to long term and enduring company success

  • Partner with and advise tribe leadership on people-related strategy and decisions

  • Coach and guide leadership towards desired situational leadership styles that enable autonomous teams

  • Future-proof teams through proactively advising on skills gaps in the various teams – help to define new roles

  • Be a driving force behind ensuring excellent scalability of the workforce across the various locations of the Merchant Acquisition & Merchant Success tribes

  • Set the tribes up for future success by creating excellent succession planning and optimizing for talent density

  • Advise on organisational structure as we evolve and grow in size

  • Ensure the tribe members have individual developmental needs recognised and planned for

  • Drive employee engagement initiatives across the tribe

  • Promote a culture of learning from failure across all offices (from a people perspective)

  • Based on tribe needs - plan and hire your own people team to best serve the people and talent acquisition needs of the tribe

  • Manage business priorities while keeping the people in the center of all decision making

You’ll be great for this role if

  • You have 8+ years’ experience in Human Resources related roles with a proven track record as a Head of People/Lead People Partner or equivalent.

  • You have fantastic and demonstrable leadership capabilities.

  • You have influential coaching communication skills – and can present vision in an articulate way that inspires teams and other leaders.

  • You possess an outstanding HR Business Partner skill set that is honed from a history of helping to craft passionate and skilled teams.

  • You have extensive experience in an agile working environment.

  • You have proven experience guiding large teams and people leaders through transformations within a fast growing tech environment.

  • If you have experience in both startups and large organisations, that would be considered a plus.
