Business Development Lead Retail
SumUp sells its card-readers in over 2000 ‘Brick & Mortar’ retail stores like MediaMarkt and Staples, and also online with partners like Amazon. Retail is one of SumUp's strategic acquisition channels to acquire new merchants.
As the retail team’s Lead Business Development you’ll lead our Retail channel’s bold expansion ambitions. We believe we are only at the beginning of our retail journey and we have identified huge potential at our doorsteps that we need you to unlock. Our retail presence plays a key role in making SumUp’s solution easily available to business owners on every street corner, through strategic retail partnerships across the continent. In this role, you’ll lead a team of business developers focused on growing the number of retail partnerships. To achieve this goal you’ll work closely with our retail team of Trade Marketeers and Partner Managers to make profitable deals.
What you’ll do
Be the key driver of our European retail expansion by growing our distribution network and getting SumUp on shelf at key ‘Brick & Mortar’ retailers and e-tailers, growing our footprint.
Identify, prioritise and engage potential retail partners across the European continent.
Be responsible for the sales cycle from first contact to the signing of the distribution agreement and contribute to a successful launch of the partner.
Set targets and be accountable for your own performance which will ultimately define additional hiring needs.
Construct and secure profitable deal setups ensuring long term beneficial partnerships.
You’ll be great for this role if
You have 7-10 years of experience in business development, key account management or sales.
You have experience managing a commercial team.
You’re self-driven, proactive, persistent and pragmatic.
You have strong negotiation skills. Experience negotiating with buyers/category managers/retailers is a plus.
You have an entrepreneurial mindset and are results-driven.
You have excellent presentation and language skills (verbally and written) in English. Fluency in additional languages is considered a plus.
You have a proven track-record and feel comfortable communicating with and convincing C-level business partners.
You’re a seasoned project manager and a strong strategic thinker.
You’re able and willing to travel.
