(Senior) Software Engineer (Java) - Payments Tribe

across 4 continents. Our office in Sofia has been key since the launch of the company back in 2012 and it now has more than 400 SumUppers in engineering and product, finance and operations teams. 

As a Software Engineer in our newly established office in Burgas, you will work across the whole tech stack and domain of the Payments Tribe - a team of 70+ that takes care of SumUp’s global card processing platform, which is business critical.

Payments Tribe’s backend tech stack: Java, Golang, Ruby/Ruby-on-rails, Elixir, Postgres, CockroachDB, Redis, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Prometheus, Grafana

What you’ll do

  • You’ll design, build and maintain back-end services in microservices architecture in Java

  • You'll participate in API design and implementation for both internal APIs and those exposed to our third-party integrators.

  • You’ll write high-quality, maintainable, and scalable code that meets coding standards and best practices.

  • You’ll support technical discussions during requirements analysis and scope definition.

  • You’ll provide comprehensive documentation and automated good test coverage, improving code quality.

  • You’ll actively participate in code reviews with other software engineers to improve code quality and maintainability.

You’ll be great for this role if

  • You have solid experience with Java (Golang or Ruby-on-rails would be a great advantage) and a tech-agnostic mindset 

  • You have experience with distributed and fault-tolerant systems

  • You have a passion for clean, maintainable and testable code

  • You have a good understanding of software architecture and application design

Any of the following would be considered a plus

  • You have experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes

  • You feel comfortable with Unix/Linux environments
