Backend Engineer (Go, Ruby, Java/Kotlin) - Platform

As a Backend Engineer (Go) in the Global Platform Tribe, the work you do will impact engineers working across different products and applications across the company. You will collaborate with peers in Product, Design, QA, and Operations to build tools that enable engineers across SumUp. You will be part of shaping the product and having a direct impact on the business.

The Mobile Platform team’s mission includes providing shared infrastructure in the form of session state handling, feature flags and identity services; introducing and maintaining shared services such as push notifications; governing the ways in which multiple product teams can integrate and launch their features. The team’s work spans across the whole SumUp product ecosystem giving you a unique insight into how a financial product for millions of merchants evolves. As part of this team, you’ll collaborate with colleagues from various SumUp offices and have a truly global impact.

What you’ll do 

  • Help build services that empower our squads to build delightful mobile experiences 

  • Collaborate with other engineers, designers and product managers in your team and across other teams to develop simple-to-use and delightful solutions for our teams

  • Share your knowledge with others, whether it's through mentorship, pair programming, or whiteboard design sessions

You’ll be great for this role if

  • You have 3+ years of experience with Golang

  • You have experience with other backend languages (Java, Kotlin, or Ruby) is a plus

  • You have solid understanding of design principles and creating clear and predictable REST APIs

  • You have experience with relational databases, preferably Postgres

  • You have experience or interest in DevOps topics, such as working with AWSDockerKubernetes, and/or Jenkins

  • You have mindset towards scalability and resilience without overengineering based on current challenges

  • You are open to learning different tools, frameworks and languages to get the job done

  • You have good writing skills and you’re able to communicate your ideas and designs effectively
