The Payments Analytics/Data Engineer will be part of the team responsible for SumUp’s largest data domain: Payments. It spans several core engineering & product teams that have a common data product with a shared repository and decentralized data ownership model.
You will be responsible for further development and maintainance of the shared repository, including scope expansion, change management, and upholding dbt ownership principles. The role is at the crossroads of data engineering and analytics, involves dealing with an environment that is evolving and growing very fast due to changing infrastructure, new products, strategies, and organizational changes, while also being complex to manage, while managing stakeholders from several core teams.
Some of the tools and technologies used in the team: AWS Cloud for all analytics back-end infrastructure, Airflow, dbt for data modeling and orchestration, Snowflake for data warehousing, Tableau for visualization, Python.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Data Capabilities
Build complex Payment data models that effectively track the transaction lifecycle and deliver trusted data marts that are suitable for core business intelligence
Ensure that all Payments data products follow dbt ownership principles
Leverage data to drive business decisions and outcomes through rigorous analysis, data visualisation, and communication of insights
Leadership
Champion the mindset of treating data as a product at SumUp within the Global Analytics chapter
Partner with Core Analytics to develop and implement robust change management processes to ensure that KPIs meet business requirements
Work across domains to ensure data interoperability and define how payments data can be integrated and used across dependent tribes
Collaborate with backend engineers, data engineers and other technical stakeholders to ensure the infrastructure supporting their data products is reliable
YOU WILL BE GREAT FOR THIS ROLE IF
You possess expert level skills with dbt Core (a minimum of 2 years experience)
You possess strong SQL skills
You possess strong data modeling skills (DB/system design and maintenance)
You have experience with git / version control
Solid problem solving and analytical skills, ability to understand challenges and recommend appropriate solutions
You have experience with stakeholder management, managing priorities and communicating expectations
NICE TO HAVES
Experience/interest in Python
Experience with Tableau Online, Looker, or comparable visualization and BI tools
Payments domain experience
