Managing Director (Australia)
As Managing Director, you’ll build the foundation of SumUp Australia. We’re looking for a great entrepreneur who’ll continuously raise the bar across marketing, operations, corporate functions, business development – whilst aligning with global priorities.
This is an incredible opportunity and a great entrepreneurial challenge. You’ll put structures in place that allow us to expand quickly, whilst building and communicating your vision for the future of SumUp in Australia. You’ll also have the opportunity to travel and work with various parts of our business, both in Europe and Latin America (when it’s safe to travel, of course).
What you’ll do
Ensure the long term scalability of the Australian market and drive it to be one of SumUp’s top 10 global markets within 2 years
Scale a healthy and operationally independent Australian organisation
Hire the necessary talent and build the structures for a localised People Team (Marketing, Growth, Customer Support, KYC, Risk, Payment Operations, People, BI and Finance)
Build the control environment and infrastructure so that Australia can meet the audit requirements of our partners and regulators
Earn the trust of the CEO and global leadership team by partnering with the rest of the global organisation
Become a pacesetter and bar raiser for all team members and support them in forming and modifying team rhythms
Understand our products inside and out and deep dive when necessary into the complexities
Scale the sales operation to meet and exceed agreed performance metrics
Coach and guide the Australian leadership team
Assess challenges with managers and their teams and support them in problem-solving
Set and own quarterly OKRs and hold the team accountable for delivery
Align critical initiatives in global forums such as acquisitions, integrations, etc.
You’ll be great for this role if
You’ve earned a degree from a top university – MBA strongly preferred.
You have a consulting background followed by corporate or scale-up experience.
You have management experience in an international, globally distributed context.
You possess excellent prioritisation skills in a fast-paced environment
You have strong data literacy and analytical skills.
You’re a natural collaborator with excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
You’re an empathic bridge-builder with an ability to understand different perspectives and translate for others.
You’re reliable, with sound judgment and a sense for picking the right battles at the right time.
You have a general understanding of the basics of the payments industry (this is not essential, but would be beneficial).
Why SumUp
This will be our first hire into Australia; given the current global pandemic, you must already be resident in Australia with the ability to work in the country. We are flexible on location, but have a strong preference for this role to be based in either Sydney or Melbourne.
