Principal Engineer (Kotlin/Node.js), Backend

We are a FinTech organisation operating in 33 markets and have over 3 million merchants using our products and services globally. Our Unified Commerce business area brings together multiple of our product offerings including the Online Store, Invoices & Accounting and UC Platform, each of which provides a unique product and service for small and medium business.

As a Principal Backend Engineer in the Online Store team based in Warsaw (or remote!), you will be working closely with the VP of Engineering and across multiple cross-functional teams in order to shape and drive our move from monolith architecture to a scalable and highly available microservices architecture based on Kotlin/Node.js.  

As a Principal Backend Engineer you will lead ideation, design and development stages with the help of our talented teams of engineers and will be the go-to engineering expert for this migration. What you will do in this role;

  • Ensuring that architectural solutions meet technical and functional requirements.

  • Reviewing existing system and software architecture, recommending improvements and participating in engineering reviews 

  • Drive technical long-term strategy for the Online Store

  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques, scalable solutions and coding standards. Your engineering experience will help you advise teams on potential pitfalls, whether scalability, maintenance or divergence from the general engineering strategy. 

  • Be a driver/sponsor of cross-squad or cross-tribe concerns, identifying common problems and leading the implementation of solutions and infrastructure.

You’ll be great for this role if;

  • You have commercial experience in a similar position 

  • You have experience working commercially with Kotlin/Node.js 

  • You have experience with distributed systems and architecture, and systems integration

  • You understand fundamental design principles, data modelling and API design

  • You are passionate about what you do and enjoy leading technical initiatives 

  • You understand the importance of cross-functional team spirit and naturally bring people together to work on common goals
