- What is SumUp Pay?
SumUp Pay is an app that customers can use to pay their favourite participating SumUp merchants (using QR codes and payment links) and to send or receive money totally free of charge.
- Is it free to use SumUp Pay?
Yes, there are no fees involved with using SumUp Pay. Whether that’s paying a SumUp merchant or sending and receiving money from your contacts.
- Why do I need to secure my profile?
As SumUp Pay is offering a financial service, we need to provide a safe environment for your personal finances. That’s why we offer multi-factor authentication (MFA), in order to enhance security. Should you attempt to log in to your profile from a new device, you’ll be asked to verify this attempt using your device security and a confirmation email.
- How do I activate multi-factor authentication?
You can set up your multi-factor authentication (MFA) in the SumUp Pay profile settings. You'll have to use your device's security and confirm that you want to set up multi-factor authentication using an email.
- How do I change my card details?
Open "Your profile" and select "Payment methods" to manage your payment methods. There you can deactivate existing cards or add new cards. Once a card has been added, it cannot be edited. Please be aware that you can only add 4 new cards in a 30-day period.
- What are the payment options with this app?
To pay a SumUp merchant, you can either scan a merchant's QR code at their business or pay using a payment link that is sent to you by a merchant.
A payment link is usually sent by a merchant via email or SMS, using a messaging service like WhatsApp or on social media.
- How do I pay?
You can enter your card details in the app. The amount will be deducted from this card if the payment is successful. You can also store multiple cards in the app and decide during the payment process which card you want to charge for the purchase. Currently only credit cards can be saved, but we are working on the support of other payment methods.
- What is a QR code?
A QR code is similar to a barcode. It holds information that is read when scanned. Using SumUp Pay, you can scan a participating merchant's QR code and complete your payment using the app.
- Where can I pay via QR code?
With SumUp Pay, you can pay at any participating SumUp merchant. You can either scan the merchant's QR code from their smart device or from a stand, display or sticker at the merchant’s business.
- How do I know if I can pay in a shop with a QR code?
Participating merchants may place their QR Code display near the checkout point. Sometimes you may also find the QR Code where you order, e.g. at the table or counter. If you can't find a QR code, you can ask the merchant if they are a participating SumUp merchant.
- How does the payment with a QR code work?
When you’re ready to pay, open SumUp Pay and scan the merchant’s QR code. You’ll need to enter your card details if you haven’t already saved them to your profile. Then, if necessary, enter the amount owed to the merchant and confirm the payment. Make sure to show the merchant the success screen so they know the payment is complete.
- What is my personal QR code?
Your personal QR code is a QR code that's unique to your profile. It can be scanned by others to show your profile information. If they're also using SumUp Pay, they'll be given the option to send and request money.
You can find your personal QR code by selecting the 'Scan' tab and then tapping on 'My code.' Alternatively. tap your profile icon and then on 'Get paid'.
Please note that your personal QR code will only be generated once you've successfully completed the signup process.
- How does the payment via link work?
Your merchant can send you a payment link via email, SMS or other messenger services such as WhatsApp. Clicking on the link will open the app and show you the amount to be paid. Now you just have to confirm the payment to complete the transaction.
- Why was my card charged with 1 euro? I thought payments are free of charge?
When you add your card, an amount of 1€ is temporarily deducted as part of an automated verification process. This amount will be immediately refunded afterwards. There are no fees for you to pay with SumUp.io.
- What is the difference between the 6- or 4-digit PIN?
SumUp.io has two types of PINs. The 6-digit login PIN is generated by us, sent to you by SMS and is only valid once. You need this code to confirm your phone number or registration.
The 4-digit transaction PIN is optional, and serves as protection against unauthorized payments. You can choose your own PIN in the app's settings under "Authentication".
- How can I change my transaction PIN?
You can change your PIN in the settings, provided you have set up a PIN beforehand. If you wish, you can also remove the PIN and use the app without a PIN.
If your phone supports biometric authentication, you can assign a PIN and avoid entering it manually by using fingerprint or face recognition authentication instead.
- I forgot my 4-digit PIN, what can I do?
No worries. Everyone can forget something. We're happy to help you out. Please send an email to [email protected] and let us know your Consumer Code. You can find the Consumer Code in your settings. We'll reset your PIN so you can create a new one.
Please note that if you reset your PIN, you will need to log in again and add your stored payment methods again for security reasons.
- Where can I find my Consumer Code?
You can find your Consumer Code, which is your customer identification number, at the bottom of the screen after tapping “Your profile”. If you send us an email directly from the app, important information about your device and your Consumer Code will be attached to the email automatically.
